This illustration entitled, "Somewhere in France", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Evening Star on June 28, 1917, shows France welcoming the first American soldiers to join the war effort as the ghost of French General Jean Rochambeau, whose army supported the American's during the Revolutionary War can be seen in the background.
