So-called portrait of Sophie Caroline Marie von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel

description

Summary

Deutsch: "Sophie Caroline Marie von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel als Witwe, um 1780"
English: So-called Portrait of Sophie Caroline Marie of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1737-1817), wife of Frederick of Brandenburg-Bayreuth (1711-1763), dressed as a widow
Note by Ecummenic: This identification is questionable since here a mature widow is shown dressed in the fashion of circa 1725-1750, while Sophie was widowed in 1763 at the age of 25. Princess Antoinette of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1696-1762), Sophie's grandmother, is suggested as possible identification since it bears a considerable resemblance to the sitter in this portrait (see image below).
