[Complete] Scene Caption: Shown is the debris on the side of the runway at Roberts International Airport, located outside of Monrovia, Liberia. The debris is from the original portion of the runway that was torn out by government officials, because it was feared the runway was mined with land mines. The debris could be a hazard for large aircraft like C-5 Galaxies or C-141B Starlifters landing at the airport, because of their large wingspans. The runway is two miles long and is being used by United States Air Force C-130E Hercules aircraft from the 86th Air Wing out of Ramstein Air Base, Germany, for Operation ASSURED LIFT. ASSURED LIFT is a Joint Task Force (JTF) operation to provide airlift and other logistical support to West African states that are deploying more than 600 troops to Liberia as part of the region's ongoing peacekeeping mission. Most of the inbound West African forces will come from the country of Mali, with the Ivory Coast and Ghana also expected to contribute troops.
