Salt River 4 7 Inch Gun Carriage Works

The AWM caption reads : "South West Africa. c. 1916. Interior of the Salt River Works where 4.7 artillery gun carriages were built. (Donor British Official Photograph Z19)".
Comment : The photograph shows the workshop of the Cape Government Railways at Salt River, Cape Town. The guns and carriages as seen were used in the South West Africa campaign of 1915, which was launched from South Africa.
