As a birthday tribute to the ship's namesake, and representing his famous "Thousand Points of Light" speech, approximately 1,300 GHWB crew members took part in a single-day community relations event across the Hampton Roads area.

The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
