Sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) use a transport cable system to offload and receive cargo during a connected and vertical replenishment at sea with the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Pecos (T-AO 197). Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is on a deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (11th MEU) in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
