Description: STS-39 Shuttle Pallet Satellite II (SPAS-II) / Infrared Background Signature Survey (IBSS) spacecraft is grappled by remote manipulator system (RMS) end effector and is positioned over Discovery's, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 103's, payload bay (PLB). In the background are the Air Force Program 675 (AFP-675) experiment support system (ESS), the aft PLB bulkhead, the vertical tail, and the orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pods. SPAS-II is a Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) payload. This image was selected by the Public Affairs Office (PAO) for public release.
