Orbiter has its nose toward the sun, its attitude fixed with respect to the sun, allowing the Office of Space Science (OSS) 1 pallet Plasma Diagnostics Package (PDP) and Induced Atmosphere Experiment to operate while remaining entirely in the shade and extreme cold. Tail section and orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pods appear in the background.
