Edwin Deakin (1838-1923) was an American painter best known for his landscapes and architectural paintings. He was born in Sheffield, England, and immigrated to the United States with his family as a child. Deakin studied art in San Francisco and eventually became one of the leading painters of the city's historic architecture. He also painted landscapes and still lifes, and his work is characterised by its attention to detail and atmospheric effects. Deakin's paintings are in many public and private collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Oakland Museum of California and the Crocker Art Museum.
