-* ■*—I—* ♦■ Hi iir Chapter VIII. INSTALLATION, ADJUSTMENTS AND MEASUREMENTS. INSTALLATION. 220. For installation ample room is available at all shore stations. On board ship, a room having about 100 square feet of floor space,with no dimension less than 6 feet, should be provided for the installa-tion and operation of a wireless telegraph set. The operating roomshould be well ventilated and lighted, as nearly sound-proof as practi-cable, and free from vibration. The exact location of the room is not ofgreat importance, provided a good lead to it for the aerial can be ob-tained. The farther this lead is from large conducting bodies the better. The room should have a well-insulated entrance for the aerial andshould be fitted with an operating table about 2^ feet wide, not less than7 feet long, and of convenient height for working the sending key whilesitting down. The table should be strongly built of dry, well-seasoned wood. The instruments should be mounted on the table so
