Retired Lt. Col. Tim Ruijling arrives at the Waal Crossing

Retired Lt. Col. Tim Ruijling arrives at the Waal Crossing Bridgehead Memorial near Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Sept. 17. Ruijling guided visiting 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade paratroopers in the tradition of the sunset march to honor the 48 men who died in combat during the Waal River crossing in 1944. Ruijling is one of the founders of the ceremony that takes place on the bridge built over the spot where elements of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 307th Engineer Battalion crossed during Operation Market Garden.
