My experience in breeding 30 varieties of pure-bred poultry for 20 years resulted in many ups anddowns, and I tbink one variety of fancy poultry issufficient. To my taste tbe beautiful Columbian Wy-andotte fills tbe bill, for tbey have not been beaten aslayers, as I found them to lay right in moulting seasonuntil they had hardly any feathers on their bodies,xhey lay nice brown-shell eggs of fine size and alsocome in very early as broilers. Chicks hatched inFebruary produced me two-pound broilers at less thannine weeks old. The Columbian Wyandottes drew my attention sixyears ago, and since I have bred them exclusively bythe thousands with best shape and color. Six yearsago I started with ten pens, eleven to twelve females toone male, and I just mated them for market eggs. Thefirst year, of course, I mated the darkest males to lightfemales, as I did not have any dark fema
