Postcard - Pickback Aborigines, Qld
Summary
This postcard is one of the 300 Coloured Shell Series of Queensland postcards, available from 1905 to 1915, many of them based on photographs taken by Henry Mobsby. The reverse side of this card shows the tally of money raised by Henry Mobsby during the Franco-British Exhibition, London in 1908. The 166 pounds 8shillings and 2pence raised enabled a Queensland cot to be established in the Queen Alexandra Hospital.
The Coloured Shell series of postcards from 1905 until 1915 are beautifully coloured cards produced from photos taken all around Queensland, Australia. They were a high quality postcard and very popular at the time and now are very keenly sought after by collectors. Although the photographers of the original photos on which these postcards are based are not mentioned, Henry Mobsby (photographer with the Qld Govt Dept of Tourism) is believed to be one of them.
