Summary

This detailed map shows the downtown Indianapolis mile-square donation lands. The entries on each parcel shows individuals who bought the land from the State of Indiana, including date and price paid. These are the first private land owners of this land. There are not Federal Land patents for the donation lands, as they were sold by the state rather than the federal government. The map data is based on a report from the same year: Report of an examination of the recorded titles to lands and lots patented by the state of Indiana, as shown by the records now in the land department of the office of the auditor of state as embraced in the donation of the United States, for the purpose of fixing a permanent seat of government of the state of Indiana, which later by an act of the Legislature, was called and known by the name of: The Town of Indianapolis, 1821-1913. Indiana State Board of Accounts, 1913. [Vault] ISLV 977.201 M341iup
