Pieces of petrified wood - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
YELL_92933: Due to events and processes associated with the volcanic activity now preserved as the Absoraka Supergroup, there is a great concentration of petrified forests and fossilized leaves within Yellowstone National Park. Bright red, yellow, and orange petrified wood fragments and tall standing stumps of Eocene petrified wood are commonly seen within the park.
