Piankhy Relief Block I im Tempelbezirk der Mut

description

Summary

The block 1 of the so-called "Piankhy blocks", from the temple of Mut at Karnak. Actually, those blocks are unrelated to both Piankhy (Piye) and the 25th Dynasty in general, and were issued in regnal year 9 of king Psamtik I of the 26th Dynasty (656 BCE) to commemorate the arrival to Thebes of her daughter Nitocris I in order of being adopted as the future god's wife of Amun at Karnak. This particular block shows one of the vessels of the royal flotilla, the one led by the commander and prince of Herakleopolis, Sematawytefnakht.[1]Deutsch: Pije (Piankhy) Relief Block I im Tempelbezirk der Mut.
