Pacific Ocean (Nov. 13, 2004) Photographer's Mate 1st Class John Yoder, left, and Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Julian Olivari, install an AN/ASQ-228 Advanced Targeting Forward-Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) Pod on an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "Bounty Hunters" of Strike Fighter Squadron Two (VFA-2) aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). The ATFLIR Pod is used for precision strike warfare employing laser-guided bombs; global positioning system-guided weapons and freefall bombs; forward air control (airborne); close air support; low altitude night navigation; and battle damage assessment. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
