The Pentateuch is the first five books of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and the Christian Bible. The books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. They are also known as the Torah in Jewish tradition. The Pentateuch tells the story of the creation of the world, the history of mankind, the formation of the Israelites as a nation and their journey to the Promised Land. It also contains the laws and commandments given by God to Moses, including the Ten Commandments. The Pentateuch is considered a foundational text for both Judaism and Christianity.
