Significance: Founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond, Pennsylvania Hospital if the earliest established hospital in the United States with the country's oldest surgical amphitheater. It is a notable architectural complex whose center building is an outstanding example of American Adamesque architecture and whose plan influenced later hospital design.
