description

Summary

"An Impressionistic Sketch of the Anti-Suffragists, by Mary Shaw, was played on the afternoon of Jan. 5, at the Hotel Plaza. In the cast were Grace [Per?]kins, Mary Shaw, Olive Oliver, Arleen Hackett, Roberta Droste, Jean Marcet [=Anna Marcet Haldeman], in the roles, respectively, of Mrs. Albright, Mrs. Grundy, Mrs. Pure-Drivel, Mrs. Sweet, Mrs. Grouch, and Miss Noodle. New York Dramatic Mirror, 10 January 1912, p. 7, "Mary Shaw Sketch" (italics added). This play later became The Woman of It, or, Our Friends, the Anti-Suffragists. More characters were added and the name Albright – assuming the notice in this newspaper relayed the original form correctly – was changed to Allright. (Names in this faded copy found out by comparison with other newspaper clippings; see Wikimedia Commons category "Anna Marcet Haldeman" for some of them.)
