Achille Mauri began his career as an artist, studying painting and drawing at the Brera Academy in Milan. However, he soon became interested in photography and began experimenting with the medium in the early 1840s. Mauri's early work focused on portraits and landscapes, and he quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and artistic vision. He was particularly adept at capturing the beauty of the Italian countryside, and his landscape photographs are still admired today for their composition and use of light. In addition to his artistic work, Mauri was also a successful commercial photographer. He opened a studio in Milan in 1853 and quickly became one of the city's most sought-after photographers. His clients included members of the aristocracy, artists and politicians, and his portraits were highly praised for their realism and attention to detail. Mauri continued to work as a photographer until his death in 1883. His legacy lives on through his photographs, which are now in collections around the world. Today he is remembered as one of the pioneers of Italian photography, whose work helped to establish photography as a legitimate art form in Italy.
