Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) was an Italian artist best known for his portraits and nudes. Born in Livorno, Italy, he studied art in Florence and Venice before moving to Paris in 1906. In Paris, he became part of the avant-garde art scene and developed his signature style of elongated figures with simplified features. Modigliani's work was influenced by African art as well as the work of artists such as Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse. His portraits are known for their intense gazes and elongated necks, while his nudes often feature reclining figures with exaggerated curves. Modigliani struggled with health problems throughout his life, including tuberculosis and drug addiction. He died in Paris at the age of 35. Today, Modigliani's work is highly sought after by collectors, and his portraits and nudes are considered some of the most iconic images of the early 20th century.
