In an ordinary chondroma incise the capsule and take away the growth, using chisels and gouges ifnecessary. Incomplete removal meansinevitable recurrence. Amputation isvery rarely demanded. In chondro-sarcoma incision must be outside of thecapsule. Loose bodies in the joints, ifproductive of much annoyance, are to beremoved, the joint being opened withthe strictest antiseptic care. Amputationis sometimes performed for a solitary cystof a long bone, the surgeon having lookedupon the growth as sarcomatous. If acorrect diagnosis is arrived at, an attemptshould be made to remove the cyst with-out amputation. Bergmann succeededin extirpating such a mass from the femur.Osteomata are tumors which arecomposed of osseous tissue. Sir J.Bland-Sutton says that osteomata areossifying chondromata. Osteomata take origin from bone, cartilage, con-nective tissue, especially tissue
