Milkweeds in bloom, Russell Cave National Monument, 2015.
Summary
Milkweeds are the main food source for larval monarch caterpillars as well as a nectar plant favored by many butterfly species. The common name 'milkweed' is derived from the milky latex that oozes out of the plant when a leaf or stem is broken.
