Luca di Tommè - Adoration of the Magi - WGA13737

Luca di Tommè was an Italian painter who was born in Siena around 1330 and died in 1389. He was a follower of the Sienese school of painting, known for its decorative and ornamental style. Di Tommè was active during the late Gothic period in Italy, and his works are characterised by vivid colours, intricate detail and religious themes. He painted many altarpieces and frescoes for churches and monasteries in Tuscany, including the Church of San Francesco in Pisa and the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Siena. One of his most famous works is the altarpiece for the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament in the Church of San Francesco in Pisa, depicting scenes from the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary. The altarpiece is notable for the use of gold leaf and for its intricate details, such as the delicate folds of the drapery and the intricate patterns on the figures' clothing. Di Tommè's work is considered an important contribution to the Sienese school of painting, which had a major influence on Italian Renaissance art.
