Summary
Lot-9709-2: Washington, D.C. Evacuation of government buildings was orderly as sirens sounded the start of the giant Civil Defense exercises, “Operation Alert, 1955”. Today, although jams of people developed in parking lots and many of those under orders to leave Washington were unable to find transportation.
