Letter from William P. Weeks, Hebron, [New Hampshire], to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1828 Aug[ust] 19th

William P. Weeks writes to Amos A. Phelps in regards to his journey to Plymouth and news of his travels. He writes of religious matters: "It appears there have been some difficulties in the Church-and one of the Deacons proposed a long list of questions for the Council to decide-the first question was whether the ministry of the church should in all cases submit to the majority-this was answered in the affirmative-the second was whether a mininster knowing before his settlement the feelings of practices of the church was justified in doing away customs that had been practiced in the Church for more than seventy years and introduce new practices & new settlements that were offensive to many of the Church. This drew forth many animated speeches. The general answer was-if these old doctrines and old practices were not forwarded in scripture, a minister should do them away."
