description

Summary

May discusses shipments, import duties, subscriptions, and deliveries of the "Anti-Slavery Advocate." He reports on the amount of the proceeds of the anti-slavery fair. May informs Webb that William Lloyd Garrison attempted to convert Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe to his view of abolition and that Garrison warned her against a group of his Glasgow opponents. May also reports briefly the contents of a letter that Mrs. Stowe wrote to Garrison in which she confesses to having believed prior to meeting him that he was "a wolf among wolves," but that she now believes him to be "a sheep in wolf's clothing." May says that Oliver Johnson will resume the editorship of the "National Anti-Slavery Standard," Garrison is moving to another home, and Mrs. Stowe wants to found a colored normal school with the money earned by "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
