description

Summary

Samuel Joseph May writes to Robert Folger Wallcut enclosing the $9.75 requested in an earlier bill. He describes his trip to Virginia and "to the hospitals in several cities and to the hospital boats at the White House" as introducing him "to scenes that I can never forget." May says that he cannot write out descriptions of what he saw but mentions that "more than two thousand soldiers were brought to the Sanitary Commission at the White House during the four days that I staid [sic] there." He then describes the lecture he gave at City Hall to report on his trip "and the execution of the commission wh[ich] they had entrusted to me."
