description

Summary

J.J. Locke writes to Samuel May asking him to hold a convention in Ware, Massachusetts. Locke says that "Rev. L. Billings - Unitarian - desires me to 'remind them' the agents of Mass[achusetts] A[nti] S[lavery] S[ociety] - 'that there is such a place as Ware.'" He tells May that Ware "is a large village, has several souls in it" and he believes "you would have a large & profitable meeting there." Locke says Billings is currently away from Ware, in Barre, and so May can write to him there. Locke also tells May about a sermon delivered by Hodge on July 4, calling it "masterly, up to the mark, bold & earnest."
