Bucklin Fitts writes to Amos A. Phelps to ask for more information regarding a recent article in the Liberator in which Garrison alludes to “portending evil to the Anti Slavery cause,” because he presumes that Phelps is “the clergymen” mentioned in the article. He hopes it is not the case that everyone disagrees with Garrison is branded as “a traitor to the cause of the slave.” He says “Mr. Garrison is urging his peculiar views too strenuously, for the good of ? Abolition.
