Summary
LC-USW33-034628-ZC: U.S. tanker, SS Pennsylvania Sun, torpedoed by German submarine, U 571, in July 1942. Despite a raging fire, which sent columns of black oily smoke billowing into the sky, crew members were able to bring the flames under control and the ship was towed to port by a U.S. Navy vessel. (7/17/2015).
