The students enjoyed a presentation earlier by KSC Deputy Director Dr. Woodrow Whitlow Jr., astronaut Leland Melvin and Dr. Julian Earls, director of NASA Glenn Research Center. Whitlow talked with students about our destiny as explorers, NASA’s stepping stone approach to exploring Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond, how space impacts our lives, and how people and machines rely on each other in space. Dr. Earls discussed the future and the vision for space, plus the NASA careers needed to meet the vision. Melvin talked about the importance of teamwork and what it takes for mission success. The Shroud is Put Over the New Countdown Clock

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Inside the Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, processing facility near NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden announced new milestones in the nation’s commercial space initiatives. Bolden announced that SpaceX has completed its Space Act Agreement with NASA for Commercial Orbital Transportation Services. SpaceX is scheduled to launch the first of its 12 contracted cargo flights to the space station from Cape Canaveral this October, under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services Program. Bolden also announced NASA partner Sierra Nevada Corp. has conducted its first milestone under the agency’s recently announced Commercial Crew Integrated Capability initiative. The milestone, a program implementation plan review, marks an important first step in Sierra Nevada’s efforts to develop a crew transportation system with its Dream Chaser spacecraft. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Kennedy Space Center Director Bob Cabana, right, Florida State Surgeon General John Armstrong, other Kennedy managers and guests prepare for an early morning run at the center's Pathfinder Trail near the Operations and Support Building II at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, to officially kick off National Employee Health and Fitness Month with the NASA Moves! challenge. NASA Moves! challenged the workforce from each of the agency's field centers to engage in at least 20 minutes of activity, or 10,000 steps, each day from May 18-31. About 100 people participated in the kickoff event on the Pathfinder Trail in the heart of the center's Launch Complex 39. The one-third-mile-long gravel walkway traces the iconic shape of a space shuttle orbiter and features a set of exercise stations. The friendly contest is part of NASA's new Health4Life initiative, a Web-based health initiative designed to help employees track their health, fitness and nutrition.
