KEYPORT, Wash. (Sept. 8, 2019) – Seen in this historical photo circa 1980, Andrea Reister (formerly Andrea Medoff) one was of the few female engineers at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station (NUWES) in Keyport, Wash., during the 1980s. In 1987, Reister broke new ground when she became the first female chief engineer in the history of NUWES. Today, NUWES is known as the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport, and is still a leader in naval engineering innovation. Photo is from the collection of the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport (museum accession number NMNW.2009.035.127), part of the Navy History and Heritage Command .
