On August 27, 1951, before the test flight of Japan Airlines' first domestic flight, 15 members of the first class of "air girls (cabin crew)" gathered at Haneda Airport. The plane and pilot were on loan from Northwest Airlines. This was in the beginning of JAL (Japan Airlines). It was in service for only three days, starting on August 27, 1951, this DC-3 was used for invitation flights ahead of the beginning of scheduled flight services from October 25, 1951 using Martin 2-0-2 aircraft. Registered PI-C7, the aircraft was leased from Philippine Airlines and operated under the name, "Kinsei" meaning Venus. Subsequent aircraft were also named after planets and other celestial bodies.
