Summary

2015 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Entry
Significance: The James Muslow house was designed in 1954 by Shreveport architects Samuel G. Wiener and William B. Wiener Sr. The building was designed in the tradition of European modernism that was adapted and significantly influenced by American culture as exemplified by the Arts and Architecture Case Study House Program. The Muslow house is perhaps the finest of the post-war residences designed by either of the Wieners and was featured in the inaugural issue of Record Houses in Mid-May 1956. The 1956 issue of Record Houses also included residential designs by John M. Johansen, A. Quincy Jones, Paul Rudolph, and future AIA Gold Medal recipients Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, and William Wurster.
