Indiana Theatre, 134 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN

description

Summary

Significance: The Indiana Theatre is an outstanding example of the Spanish-style architecture in vogue in America during the 1920s. It is particularly noteworthy for its terra-cotta facade and its auditorium details, both in the Churrigueresque manner, and its top floor "atmospheric" ballroom designed to imitate a Spanish town plaza. Leading jazz dance bands played there frequently.
