Summary

In a ceremony on Oct. 3, 2020 at Gowen Field, Col. Christopher Burt, Idaho National Guard’s state aviation officer, transferred command of the 1st of the 183rd Assault Helicopter Battalion from Lt. Col. Christian O'Leary to Lt. Col. Nicole Washington. Here, the unit stands behind the 183rd flag during the ceremony. O'Leary assumed command of the unit in 2018. Under his leadership he oversaw a deployment to Guatemala and numerous search and rescue missions. O’Leary also initiated the unit’s transition to the UH-60 M model, the U.S. Army's most advanced Black Hawk helicopter in its inventory. The unit will continue its transition to the M model under Washington, who has deployed to both Bosnia and Afghanistan, and also makes unit history as the first female to command the 1-183rd AHB.
