Summary

Brig. Gen. Patrick Hamilton, Domestic Operations (DOMOPS) Commander, Texas Military Forces (TXMF), discusses the proposed TXMF response in a hurricane rehearsal of concept drill integrating TXMF with other state agencies at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas, May 17, 2014.
Every May the TXMF facilitates a hurricane drill incorporating each component of the TXMF: Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, and Domestic Operations, with partnering state agencies such as Texas A&M Forest Services, Texas Task Force 1, Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Division for Emergency Management and many other disaster preparedness key leaders across Texas, in order to synchronize the hurricane response efforts and identify any potential gaps ahead of time. This helps the TXMF to provide a more efficient and effective response in saving lives and protecting property, explained Maj. Paul Mancuso, Chief of Operations for the TXMF DOMOPS unit.
The rehearsal covered two hurricane scenarios, the most dangerous, and the most likely locations for hurricanes to affect Texas, with each agency working together to prepare for both.
This rehearsal is one of many drills the TXMF participates in throughout the year, with partner emergency response agencies, in order to have a more efficient and effective response to natural and man-made disasters that might effect the citizens of Texas.
