Inscribed on back of drawing: “HMS ‘Basilisk’, Captain John Moresby 1871. 28th May [1874]. In Threshold Bay, New Guinea. Anchored off a delicious little cove of this large open Bay – The Rajah of Salwatti who is supreme ruler came off to visit us in a large prahu rowed by about 20 men”.
