and Nassau.Few towns can now boast of more attractiveresidences, and none of such mao^nificenthotels for the solace of the traveler. After avaried existence of over three centuries, theancient city has put on a new life of eleganceand prosperity. Dear old city ! how many sweet associationsit has for the many thousands who have visitedit in these past years ! How many walks on St. Augustine 581 the sea wall; how many boat rides on its placidwaters ; how many excursions into its meander-ing creeks, and strolls along the beach ofAnastasia Island ; how many cozy corners inthe loggia of the Ponce de Leon, and thecorridors of the Alcazar, come at the call ofmemory ! The gray and time-worn old Castle of SanMarco, with its gloomy portals and dark cham-bers, seems in a moment to carry the visitorback three centuries to another people andanother age. People may come, and peoplemay go, but the old Castle will remain forcenturies, a memorial to the long-past age ofthe Spanish monarchy in America.
