Hayez - Bagnante, 1844 circa

Francesco Hayez (1791-1882) was an Italian painter who is considered one of the leading artists of the Romantic movement in Italy. He was born in Venice and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice before moving to Milan, where he became a prominent figure in the art scene. Hayez's paintings are known for their emotional intensity, dramatic lighting and rich colours. He often depicted historical and mythological scenes, as well as portraits and genre scenes. Some of his most famous works include 'The Kiss', 'The Last Days of Napoleon' and 'The Death of Romeo and Juliet'.
