Summary

This image depicts waving passengers on board the Sydney ferry, SS KIANDRA, departing Circular Quay. The ferry was launched in 1911 as the sister vessel to SS KIRRULE and KUBU. On 30 April 1930, KIANDRA collided with the Manly ferry SS CURL CURL, suffered damage and was withdrawn from service. Throughout the 1920s the vessel was used on harbour cruises. In 1953, KIANDRA was eventually sold and broken up...This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars.
