Griffis sculpture at DiMartino Garden, Walton Woods Park, Amherst, New York - 20220728
Summary
As seen in July 2022, this interesting Modernist steel sculpture stands outside the Walton Pond Center at the Audubon New Community in Amherst, New York. A 1974 work of artist and local native Larry Griffis, it depicts a diamond-shaped formation of Canada geese in flight can be regarded as a prototype of his later, more fully realized work Birds Excited Into Flight (1981). The garden surrounding the sculpture was later established in honor of Anthony DiMartino, former general manager of the New York State Urban Development Corporation under whose aegis the Audubon was first developed.
