Greco-Phoenician - Scarab of Herakles with Club and Bow - Walters 42158 - Back
Summary
The jasper depicts Herakles moving toward the left with the lion skin pulled over his head and flying behind his body. He holds a bow in his right hand and the club in his left, raised over his head ready to strike. Gems were used as seals but also as jewelry and could reflect mythological figures as represented elsewhere in the arts, especially in sculpture.
