Grand jury "killed" union-sponsored program in Harlan County, Ky. Washington, D.C., April 27. Appearing before the Senate Civil Liberties Committee today, former Rep. John Young Brown related how a union-sponsored radio program, designed to give publicity to the conditions in "Bloody Harlan" County, was destroyed because the Harlan grand jury threaten to summon all participants in the program. Brown added, "the man scheduled to make the next speech on the program, which was sponsored by the United Mine Workers, suddenly developed business in Chicago, another lost his way while coming to the studio, and another didn't get there on time," 4/27/1937
