Let A B be the given base from which the triangulationis to be commenced. The theodolite being placed at A, fixthe verniers at 0 and 180° on the graduated plate; 0 to bebelow the eye glass of the telescope—turn the whole instru-ment until the station B is seen through the telescope, thenclamp the theodolite firmly. The graduated plate being thusfixed, take the angles, made by the lines A D, A C, with the baseA B. Write the angles in the note book as the verniers in-dicate on either side. (The theodolite is supposed to begraduated to 360°, and to have verniers on opposite sides.)From the station B, the same process is to be gone throughthat took place at A. The position of verniers of the in-strument may be retained as they were at A, when lookingtoward B, or the 180° may be turned
