Gen. Frank Grass, the National Guard Bureau Chief, visited the town of Clendenin, W.Va., one of the many communities devastated by historic flooding last week. During his visit, he also visited the W.Va. National Guard Joint Operation Center where he was briefed on various flood-related operations across the state. Grass thanked the ore than 600 WVNG Soldiers and Airmen have been activated to help assist in various ways including search and rescue, going out as Community Assessment Teams to check on residents, aviation, reconnaissance, debris removal, food and water distribution, cleaning, and operations. The WVNG is just one part of a large contigent of federal, state, and community agencies, non-profit organizations, and volunteers who are helping the Mountain State recover from floods that killed more than 20 people, ruined thousands of structures, and left thousands homeless.
