Front gate and fur press - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
Fort Union Trading Post's front gate and southwest bastion overlook the north bank of the Missouri River. When this American Fur Company-built trading post operated, 1828-1867, steamboats unloaded their cargo of trade goods at a dock to the left, or south, of the wood fur press in front of the main gate.
