Cary Jarvis speaks to family, friends, fellow veterans and current Virginia National Guard Soldiers gathered to celebrate as he is honored as a Knight in the French Legion of Honor Jan. 11, 2015, in Norfolk, Va. Jarvis, who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, with the Virginia National Guard’s 111th Field Artillery Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, received the highest decoration bestowed in France.
